Most of us don’t need more than one whiff to identify that generally unpleasant, characteristic smell we call body odor. But it’s a surprisingly complex phenomenon, influenced by our genetic makeup, age, diet, and hygiene. So what is this odor, exactly? Where does it come from? And can we do anything about it? Mel Rosenberg dives into the stinky science of body odor.

  1. What gives African, Indian and Chinese their distinct smell? In case of Chinese, I bet it's completely food related, since their scent changes over the day.

  2. While some people offend me with their smell, one managed to stay in my mind. I could recognise her by her scent from several meters, around corners, through doors and her smell lingered in hallways for several minutes, making me able to track her! Even a day after she left, her office reeked of her and to make it more awkward for me, I did notice how her scent changed over the month, periodically! The fact that no one else seemed to be able to smell her, while she irritated my nose to such an extent, that I start sneezing, when she's right next to me, drove me almost mad.

  3. Hi to all. Some studies concluded that body odor helps prevent inbreeding by being fould smelling to individuals being closely related to each other. I wonder if this has been confirmed.

  4. Huh, my father has some east-asian roots, and everybody keeps saying his sweat never stinks, I never believed that, even though I never smelled it myself, but I'm inclined to start believing it after seeing this video…

  5. My advice to people out there who are concerned about body odor is to stop using antiperspirant for 2 months and see what happens. Your body has a natural bacteria that helps you but we Wash It Away everyday and think the soap is the greatest thing. It's not. So many people say wash your pits more but that will only wash away the good bacteria which help you, leaving behind the others that stank

  6. I love this channel because you can’t tell wether they’re trying to help or hinder you…
“BO is bad, here’s what causes it”
“Don’t worry, you can fight it!”

“Oh and by the way, did you know your BO might give you superpowers?”
